Moonsill privacy policy

Last updated 15 October 2026

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
  • Your garden, almanac and scrapbook stay on your phone.
  • Moonsill only ever knows your city as an area about 10 km across, never your exact location.
  • If you use Friends, our server keeps an anonymous friend code, who your friends are, and plants and notes on their way. You can delete all of it in the app.

Who we are

Moonsill is made by Fundr. Studio (John Richie Campo). Questions about this policy or your data go to [email protected].

What stays on your phone

Your garden, your almanac and pressed flowers, your scrapbook pages, your settings, your city (as a 10 km area), notes from friends and the names you give them. We can’t see any of it. Deleting the app deletes it.

Your location

Moonsill needs your city to show your weather. You can type a city, or let Moonsill use your approximate location once.

  • If you allow location, your phone’s position is rounded to an area about 10 km across on your phone, before anything else sees it. Your phone’s own location service (Apple’s on iPhone, Google’s on Android) turns that area into a city name.
  • Only the rounded area is sent to Moonsill’s server, to get its weather. Your exact location never leaves your phone.
  • Moonsill asks for location only when you tap to use it. It never tracks you in the background.
  • When you type a city, the text you type goes to Moonsill’s server to find it.

Weather

To grow your garden, the app sends your 10 km area and time zone to Moonsill’s server. The server gets the weather for that area from Apple Weather, airport weather reports (the NOAA Aviation Weather Center), satellite rain (GSMaP, JAXA) and MET Norway, and checks official storm warnings from national weather services. Places and climate come from GeoNames, Open-Meteo and NASA POWER.

These providers only ever talk to our server, never to your phone, so they don’t see you. Weather is kept per area and shared by everyone in it; it isn’t linked to you.

Friends (only if you use them)

Nothing about Friends exists until you open Friends. Then Moonsill makes an anonymous account for your phone, with no name, email or password, and our server keeps:

  • your random friend code, and a short record of codes your phone tried (to stop guessing);
  • who your friends are, and anyone you blocked;
  • plants and notes on their way to or from you. Notes are picked from set lines; nobody can type anything. A gift is deleted from the server as soon as your friend’s phone receives it.

Your friends see the plants and notes you send. They never see where you live. A gift can say it rained, but never where.

To delete it all: in the app, open Settings › Privacy & data › Delete my friend code and data. That removes your friend code, your friendships, anything in transit and your anonymous account from our server. Your garden stays on your phone.

Camera and photos

The camera is used only to scan a friend’s code, on your phone. No picture is kept or sent. Moonsill can save your scrapbook pages to Photos when you tap Save to Photos; it never looks at your photo library. What you share with the share button goes where you choose.

Notifications

Notifications (seeds blowing in, critters on their way, live rain) are scheduled on your phone. Moonsill doesn’t send them from a server and keeps no notification ID for your phone.

Purchases

The full garden is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle the payment; we never see your card or payment details. The app asks the store what you own and keeps the answer on your phone. We keep no record of your purchase.

What Moonsill never does

  • No ads, and no advertising ID.
  • No analytics, crash reporting or tracking across apps and websites.
  • No access to your contacts.
  • We don’t sell or share your data with anyone.

Our server

Moonsill’s server and database run on Supabase. Like any server, it keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the service running and safe. We don’t use them to identify you. Your data may be handled in a country other than yours.

How long we keep things

  • On your phone: until you delete the app.
  • Friends data on our server: until you delete it in the app, or ask us to. Gifts are deleted once received.
  • Weather: kept per area, not per person.

Children

Moonsill is for everyone. It asks nobody for a name, email or exact location, has no ads and no free-text chat, and doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices and rights

You can use Moonsill without location (type a city), without Friends and without notifications. You can delete your server data in the app at any time. You can also email [email protected] to ask what we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. Depending on where you live (for example under the EU and UK GDPR, or the Philippines’ Data Privacy Act), you may also complain to your local data protection authority.

The Moonsill wishlist on this website

If you join the wishlist on fundrstudio.com/moonsill, we keep your email, the phone you picked and when you agreed, with our email provider Resend, to tell you when Moonsill is out and send the odd bit of Moonsill news. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, or ask [email protected] to delete it. These pages use no analytics or tracking cookies.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. If Moonsill ever starts collecting something new, we’ll say so here and in the app’s update notes before it does.
